With such diverse cultures living in our transitional accommodation we have been able to host 2 community dinners showcasing food from Africa and Sri Lanka.  Both events have been outstanding successes.

African Community Dinner 2017:

Melissa and Amani, 2 community volunteers worked with 2 of our African residents to cook a variety of delicious African food.

The guests thoroughly enjoyed meeting the residents, learning about African culture and food and participating in an African sing along conducted by one of the residents.  There were smiles all round while new friendships and connections were made.

Many of the guests had been involved in various ways supporting the men in the accommodation and it was their way of giving back to the local community.  Michael Berkman the newly elected member for Maiwar attended and the dinner was his first event in an official capacity.

Sri Lankan Community Dinner March 2018:

On Harmony Day the Sri Lankan residents wowed the guests with their culinary delights from Sri Lanka.  (They went easy on the chillies for us Aussies!)

We had the privilege of having Minister Stirling Hinchcliffe attend along with Wayne Briscoe from Multicultural Affairs Qld.  Carolyn Mason, the chair of Communify’s Board also attended.

Many of our Friends of Bardon volunteers attended and again this dinner was a huge success with people staying on to chat and enjoy the friendly welcoming atmosphere.
